Capheaton Hall provides luxury holiday accommodation in the heart of Northumberland.
Capheaton is a small rural community in the heart of Northumberland. At its core is Capheaton Hall, the seat of the Swinburne family since 1260 and still our home today. Cleverly, we have survived being on the wrong side of most conflicts since then, including the Wars of the Roses, the Civil War, the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion and the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion.
Capheaton is a place for people to come and enjoy the very best of Northumberland. It is unbelievably tranquil, old-fashioned and relaxed. Staying here is a chance to make this wonderful place yours and indulge in gentleness, serenity and relaxation. At Capheaton, you are not just visiting a lovely old Estate, you are becoming part of a small but rich and vibrant rural community and we do hope you love it as much as we do.
This is Capheaton
Capheaton offers space. Space to think, relax and enjoy. With our accommodation, we can cater for families and couples. The house itself offers a range of possibilities in terms of internal space for parties, weddings and corporate events. All within the context of a living, working and traditional Northumbrian Estate.

So quiet! The perfect getaway! Loved every minute- from the underfloor heating to the doggy treats and access to firewood! Great hosting!

We absolutely loved our stay here and felt right at home (so did our greyhound!). Check-in was easy and we really appreciated that some local information and the cottage hand book had been emailed ahead. There were a few goodies and a birthday card greeting us on arrival, which was a lovely touch. The cottage is beautifully furnished (we particularly enjoyed the selection of books), and clean. There was a welcome box for our dog (some biscuits, bowl, toy and bed), which again was a lovely touch. The area is very quiet and peaceful with plenty of opportunities for walks but is close enough to local amenities (Ponteland is just down the road) and is a fantastic base for exploring. We enjoyed visiting Alnwick, Wallington, Belsay and Cragside. Also there are some great fishing lakes nearby. If you’re here on the weekend there’s a lovely (dog friendly) coffee shop in the village hall- just a short walk away. We would definitely recommend and would book again without hesitation.

Beautiful house and surroundings. Perfect for a family birthday get together. Loved the real fires. Great walk in Kielder and drove out to Twice Brewed Inn for Hadrian’s Wall, great Sunday lunch and truly dark skies. Stunning landscapes – such a beautiful area of the country. Thank you!

Beautiful homely and individual house. Loved the art work on the walls and the two log burners. The setting is stunning, peaceful with far reaching views. The house is very comfortable and makes a superb base. It is a short drive from pubs, restaurants and local stores so stock up well if you don’t want to be driving for an evening meal. The generous dining room makes meals at home after a day exploring a perfect solution we found. We loved the area - very beautiful. With Kielder water accessible and Hadrian’s Wall and the Northumbrian countryside - we had a wonderful relaxing break. Thank you.

Stunning luxurious cottage, beautiful views and walks. Everything tastefully and thoughtfully thought through giving guests a wonderful holiday. Can’t recommend highly enough. Will definitely return. We absolutely loved everything about our stay at Emily. The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished. Loved the mix of old and new and a few family items. The books were a lovely touch and we read several and left one of ours behind for future guests. The views are stunning and the walk through the woods to the lake just lovely. Every little thing has been thought out to make guests feel at home. And luxurious finishing touches. Our little dog especially appreciated the dog biscuits, and the other little touches for the dog made us feel that she was very welcome. Gorgeous home, wonderful setting and we hope to come back Thank you

Emily cottage is of an unusually high standard. It is extremely spacious and comfortable. The under floor heating keeps it pleasantly warm with the added bonus of a wood burning stove for chilly evenings. Capheaton is in beautiful countryside with plenty of things to do. Thank you, we really enjoyed our stay in Emily. We found it warm, comfortable and well equipped. We appreciated the spacious design and the large comfy bed - something rare in one bedroom cottages.

Luxurious & beautifully appointed cottage, set in the fabulous grounds of Capheaton Estate. We will definitely come back. What a luxurious time we had staying in Alice. We particularly liked the extra touch of fluffy bath robes & large bath sheets. Thank you for the welcome pack of goodies, the wine was particularly good. Both we & our friends commented on leaving that we would stay again. Thank you for allowing us to explore your estate, we loved our first taste of Northumberland

Had a great week at the end of September. Accommodation was great, amazing beds and we loved having a log burner! The cottage is in a lovely, peaceful rural area. We had a daily dog walk up to the hall and had the pleasure of meeting Jane the gardener. If you like gardens make the effort to go and see the walled kitchen garden. We visited National Trust places Wallington and Cragside. Spent an afternoon at Morpeth which still has a host of independent shops and the bagpipe museum if that’s your thing! We visited the Blacksmiths coffee shop in Belsay which is only 10 mins drive away. If you’re at Capheaton the last Thursday of the month I recommend a trip to the fish and chip van that visits.

We stayed here over Christmas, and I say this without hyperbole - we had the best Christmas ever. Check-in was effortless, the accommodation flawlessly clean and full of character, with not a single thing I would change. It's hard to explain how relaxing a time we had, and I feel the biggest compliment I can pay is that we WILL be back. Thank you!

What a place!! This was so much better than I had anticipated! The cottage is lovely and definitely ticked all the boxes for me. It was very peaceful despite being in a row of three cottages and is much larger than the pictures would suggest. The instructions and communication from the hosts were excellent and very clear. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend it!

A great week - the cottage is very peaceful, set in a lovely rural situation. There is a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good bathroom with shower and bath (and plenty of hot water), and a spacious dining room. The sitting room with log burner is cosy for cooler evening and it is good to have off road parking in a designated space.

Capheaton Hall is stunning. The West Wing is grand but homely and the garden and grounds are spectacular. Fresh garden produce from the magnificent walled garden was a real treat. Willy and Eliza were delightful hosts and their dogs are gorgeous!

We can't recommend this beautiful place highly enough. The house is lovely, the setting spectacular. The garden was stunning, in full bloom and highly scented. The views from the terrace (and some rooms indoors) are amazing, you would never get tired of drinking them in. The estate is lovely to wander around - they are rightly proud of the wonderful walled garden, but there are also woods, a folly, a lake and a tennis court. William and Eliza were very attentive and friendly hosts, but relaxed and never intrusive, and Louise was also extremely helpful. The resident dogs also provided bonus entertainment for the children! We can't wait to come back.

The Lakeside Cottages at Capheaton must be among the most wonderful and amazing places to stay in the UK. The cottages with their vaulted ceilings and very high quality furnishings and fittings were well beyond the normal holiday homes. If you are looking for tranquillity, beautiful sunsets, fabulous landscapes and excellent internet speeds then this is the place to visit. I just hope that there will still be availability for our next visit!

Wedding
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the entire Capheaton team (Louise, Eliza, Willy, Jane, Fergus and everyone else) for being so welcoming and supportive throughout the entire wedding process up until the post-wedding day! We had the most magical day and wish we could do it all again. Louise is the most patient and kindest soul who was so patient and helpful with her advice. She always had a solution to things that seemed impossible, and we are just thankful that we had such support! What more do you want, a fantastic venue with the best team to work with. Thank you once again!

Capheaton was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. It was intimate, elegant and relaxed, which helped us and our guests have a really great time. Thank you very much to everyone at Capheaton, especially Louise and Eliza, for your help with everything, and we would highly recommend Capheaton to anyone looking for a unique venue for their wedding day.

Wedding
There was a good amount of meetings before the wedding which meant we felt organised and on top of things. On the day Louise and Anna were always there to check things were getting done and we were where we were meant to be.
I would definitely recommend a wedding at Capheaton Hall. The setting is perfect and you receive so much help from the wedding coordinators that you feel totally calm and well organised. On the day they are fantastic at keeping you right and they go out of their way to help.
