Emily
The property, location and wider Estate grounds are fantastic, perfect for us as a couple and our cocker spaniel Hamish. The view from the large window in the kitchen/dining area has been great also, at all times of the day, very peaceful. Thanks also to Willy for giving us a 'wee' tour of the amazing gardens and for the vegetable and fruit box later that day - all delicious! The circular walk out by the Lake and back through the Hall gardens was ideal for our evening walk with Hamish before settling down for the night. Thanks again and hope to return at some point in the future.

Another wonderful week in Capheaton! We enjoyed 3 bookshops(!) - Barter books, Alnwick, Cogito books, Hexham and Forum Books, Corbridge (highly recommend a treat from Grants Bakery!), a walk around a frozen Bolam Lake and a spot of beachcombing at Druridge Bay, as well as lots of cosy times by the fire reading, playing board games and best of all the amazing bath! Edward cottage was as always the perfect getaway and we've had such a relaxing and restorative week - thank you!

We've had a wonderful time here in the School House, a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay! The walk around the estate was lovely and we really enjoyed our trips out to Cragside, Alnwick, Amble and Alnmouth for fish and chips! It went too quickly, so we think we'd like to come back again in the Summer and explore the surrounding countryside - even though we only live in Warkworth!

What a beautiful cottage Alice is. we described it as a tardis. Loved the room we slept in - so much space! The stars at night are really worth staying up for. Whilst here we visited Druridge Bay with Teddy - empty beach which he loved. Kielder was a great walk and the weather held for us. Shaftoe Crag was worth the walk. On our only 'wet' day we stayed local and walked around Capheaton Hall grounds and down to the boat house at the Lake. Hope you also enjoy a stay here.

A great week in a great holiday cottage. The weather has been especially kind to us. We enjoyed Kirkharle, Capheaton tea rooms, Barter Books, Cragside, Cresswell beach and Corbridge. Our 5th return visit having just one more option to try. Have loved all of our stays in Alice, Emily, Edward and School House. This trip we visited Embleton beach - gorgeous and a trip to the Ship Inn is worth it, lovely lunch. Only a 15 minute drive from Capheaton is The Beresford Arms - lovely food and staff, definitely worth a trip too. Corbridge has a lovely vibe and a quirky home shop hidden behind a petrol station - RE - again, worth a trip. We find new and lovely places each time we visit, but especially love the tranquillity of this lovely place. Thank you Louise for your care and consideration with our bookings. Hope to return soon.

Visited and would recommend Cresswell beach, Warkworth, National Trust Cragside, Etal and Ford villages and Hay Farm - heavy horse farm. It was closed but the owner was so accommodating and we met her wonderful Clydesdales - stunning!! Farm is in between Etal and Ford. Opens from March properly. Loved the peace and quiet and delighted to find a new Running Fox cafe opened at Kirkharle - 5 min drive or 1 hour walk along country lanes. Fab for breakfast and dog friendly - even a walk around Capability Brown Lake. Wallington fab too! And if you love quirky interiors, RE in Corbridge is a must - well hidden behind the petrol station, and we have to admit, one of our reasons to return to Northumberland.

We visited The Sill and walked Hadrian's Wall from the gap to Crags lough. Kielder observatory walk was a good uphill walk. Cragside was wonderful with lots of on lead walks for the dogs. Cresswell is a beautiful beach. Cafe by design in Ponteland had excellent food, cakes & ice cream and 'pleased to meet you' in Morpeth has amazing food. We will return to the area for the scones alone! A great week in a stunning county.

Had a fantastic week in this gorgeous quiet cottage. Not visited the area before and used it as a base to explore. Great visit to Vindolanda (Make sure you park in the main car park as you need to be part mountain goat to get back to the car park). Hexham Abbey was beautiful. Lovely meal at Boat House Craster, the crab legs were fantastic. Star gazing from outside the cottage was amazing, never seen so many stars.

Super week exploring this part of Northumbria. Weather was kind to us - mostly. Coast, castles, National Trust properties, but highlights were Hadrian's Wall, The Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda. The quality and quantity of the finds are outstanding and so much still to be discovered. Blackbird Inn and Tandoori Ponteland were both fabulous in terms of both food and service. Tea room on a Sunday morning is quite the place to be! Location and peace and quiet wonderful.

A pleasant stay, always warm and bright at this time of year. We visited Vindolanda and the Wall of course. On our return we slept in a bed with clouds for duvets. We couldn’t really ask for more.

We (4) stayed in the cottage 'Alice' over the Christmas period. The location is quiet and restful. You are treated to a tranquil view of swans and other fowl on Sir Edwards Lake. There is a boathouse by the lake which we were allowed to visit. It is a lovely location to see wildlife and try to film them. The cottage is on the end of the little terrace. It has ample parking at the rear with easy access via a small gate and enclosed garden to the back door. A tap is located on the wall at the back, which proved very helpful in cleaning muddy boots or dog before entering the cottage. The cottage has a large kitchen/lounge area with a log burning stove and underfloor heating. The walls are tastefully hung with pictures. The bedrooms are spacious and warm. The main bedroom has an arched brick ceiling . The en suite bathroom has a lovely rain shower which can deliver a strong downpour. It is a spacious bathroom and a pleasure to use. The second bedroom has lovely views at the back of the property over the surrounding fields to the woods beyond. It has a separate bathroom next to it. The beds were firm but lovely to relax on or sleep on. The kitchen is fully fitted and comes with a fridge/freezer capable of storing all the food for us, needed to do the Xmas day meal. The washing machine came in useful . The cottage information folder has full instructions on how to use the items as well as a comprehensive guide to the area. The price might seem high but once you see the cottage and interior, you will see it is a fair price. We were pleased to see the owners are keen on recycling waste. If going to Belsay, try the Blacksmith Cafe. All food is freshly cooked on site and was a great find. We will be returning to Alice in the future. Summer time would be better.

What a place!! This was so much better than I had anticipated! The cottage is lovely and definitely ticked all the boxes for me. It was very peaceful despite being in a row of three cottages and is much larger than the pictures would suggest. The instructions and communication from the hosts were excellent and very clear. We thoroughly enjoyed our home away from home visit to the lakeside cottage, Alice. A perfect spot for peaceful breaks with plenty of on the doorstep walks for us with our two dogs. The cottage was a short drive from cafes and restaurants in Belsay and Ponteland. Contactless check in worked really well but the estate manager was on hand to support with answers to any questions if required. The log burner and smart tv was a welcome retreat each evening once tired legs returned from long walks! Very comfy beds and fabulous power shower or bathtub to choose from!

There is a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good bathroom with shower and bath (and plenty of hot water), and a spacious dining room. The sitting room with log burner is cosy for cooler evening and it is good to have off road parking in a designated space.

Lovely couples getaway, even with a couple of cottages around you would never know they were there with how peaceful it is. We messaged Willy & Eliza asking if we could access the gardens and within a few minutes we had a response, when we went into the gardens Willy came to introduce himself and explained the different areas we could go within the grounds. We can't recommend this beautiful place highly enough. The house is lovely, the setting spectacular. The garden was stunning, in full bloom and highly scented. The views from the terrace (and some rooms indoors) are amazing, you would never get tired of drinking them in. The estate is lovely to wander around - they are rightly proud of the wonderful walled garden, but there are also woods, a folly, a lake and a tennis court. William and Eliza were very attentive and friendly hosts, but relaxed and never intrusive, and Louise was also extremely helpful. The resident dogs also provided bonus entertainment for the children! We can't wait to come back.

The Lakeside Cottages at Capheaton must be among the most wonderful and amazing places to stay in the UK. The cottages with their vaulted ceilings and very high quality furnishings and fittings were well beyond the normal holiday homes. If you are looking for tranquillity, beautiful sunsets, fabulous landscapes and excellent internet speeds then this is the place to visit. I just hope that there will still be availability for our next visit!

The location meant we were in hitting distance of both the coast and Kielder Forest, so plenty to keep busy with. I couldn't have been happier with my stay in the Lakeside Cottage Edward. The only downside was I didn't book it for longer as there is an abundance of things to see and do in not only the surrounding areas but Capheaton itself too. The cottage is beautiful the interior design was simply incredible and clearly had a lot of thought and attention put into it, the pictures do not do it total justice, it has a cosy yet spacious feel combining the old with the new. It's hard to sum up just how astonishing this place was in just this review but I can say I will be booking again as soon as possible. I write this review hesitantly - as I may not get a chance to book it again! In a word - HEAVEN. It was an absolute treat to stay in 'Alice', one of Willy's newly converted properties on the Estate. It felt a real privilege being 'first in' to the cottage (and also slightly daunting). We were very comfortable, and the beautiful interior and furnishings definitely enhanced our stay. From opening the back door and seeing the 'dog' box, complete with dog treats, to the enormous (and fabulous) map of the Northeast on the wall, from the bottle of white wine chilling in the fridge, even to the eco loo paper in the bathrooms; each little detail made us smile or confirm our decision that we'd found somewhere special to stay. The property lies in the middle of the Capheaton Estate, with stunning views down to the lake. The spring sunshine showed it all off to perfection, and the newborn lambs and calves were very friendly neighbours. This is a very special place to stay. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
