Capheaton is heaven but also a haven! We had our first reunion with our family here after lockdown (we all received our test results of NEGATIVE the day before we set out.)
The West wing is big but still cosy and comfortable, with lovely beds and everything one needs to make one's stay as relaxing as possible.
The kitchen garden is a wonder, enormous with every conceivable vegetable and fruit tree including apricots and peaches. Jane, the head gardener is very knowledgeable and eager to chat about the plants and also shares the produce most generously.
The owners and their children were most welcoming and we enjoyed games of croquet and tennis and even snooker.
We were not blessed with good weather but we played games and read and watched the odd film in front of a blazing fire each evening so we didn’t feel deprived!
We will be most sad to leave but vow to return.

Our stay at The West Wing, Capheaton Hall is one of my best vacations in 76 years. We travelled over 4000 miles from Florida, USA, to this idyllic magnificent estate. Willy and Eliza are most exceptional hosts/owners. The rolling beautiful countryside is peppered with castles, cathedrals, history, and everywhere we toured, ate, and visited we were greeted by the most sociable and caring people. What an honor it was to be able to slip back in time to Capheaton Hall and this historical part of the world and have the feeling of belonging.

What a great stay at the School House. Thought the communication was great up front, the property was exactly as advertised, everything was spotless and the house was extremely comfortable. Would recommend to others. And a bottle of wine and a cake on arrival - very thoughtful.

Our week at The West Wing was the best holiday we have ever had. With access to the wider estate we had almost boundless local opportunities for fun and activities - from boating on the lake, to walks across the stunning parkland, to learning about plants and flowers in the kitchen garden (and lifting the odd vegetable for evening meals!). Willy and Eliza are perfect hosts and we left knowing so much more about the place and the people of the NE...…ask about JMWTurner residency in the West Wing, and also about Algernon Charles Swinburne poet, friend of Dante Rossetti, and the former's writings on cannibalism! Whilst in the area we explored an incredibly rich area of culture and recommend: Belsay Castle and its stunning and unorthodox garden quarry; Kielder Forest for its observatory; Barter Books at Alniwck; Lindisfarne for a good tourist experience; Bamburgh sands to escape the tourists in the dunes and have the best walk in England along the beachfront. We are coming back.

We have much enjoyed two family holidays at Capheaton's West Wing. The accommodation is spacious, elegant, and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed walks in the park, rowing on the lake, tennis, croquet, and the help of the gardener in providing fresh fruit and vegetables from the walled garden. The keyboard gave opportunity for playing and singing. We ventured out to a few nearby National Trust places during our first holiday, but in the second our only outings were to the nearby Waitrose. We spent all the rest of our time enjoying the estate and having time to read and cook: a very welcome rest from busy work schedules. Evening walks with the moon shining through the ruined folly in the garden were memorable.

The School House is a beautiful house to stay in. Very Cosy with the log burners on and nice thick curtains. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. Lovely views out over the countryside from all rooms.

We spent two nights in this lovely School House in October. Despite some horrible weather, the cottage was warm and cosy with ample comfortable bedding. The house is well equipped and finished to a good standard making if feel very homely for our short stay. What's more, the wonderful views out over the lake and it's quiet, picturesque location made it the perfect base for a relaxed family weekend in Northumberland.

This is our 4th visit to The West Wing and we've had the most wonderful week. The kids have loved all the cycling and the freedom and playing with Peggy. We love it here, thank you Eliza and Will.

A delightul place with delightful people. The West Wing has been carefully restored and is a cosy and comfortable hideaway. Both Jane and Louise were wonderful to speak with and our tour of the garden was a truly memorable treat. Thank you.
We too, explored the countryside and long walks but it is Capheaton Hall which will stay in our hearts, thanks to Eliza and Willy.
