Until the late Seventies, Capheaton School served the parish and the School House was always occupied by the teacher. Now it has been converted to a holiday let available weekly or for shorter breaks.
With two double bedrooms and a small bunk room, it is a great retreat from the hurly-burly of life. Overlooking Sir Edward’s Lake, it enjoys lovely views and has a large garden and BBQ area.
You can book all of our properties together if you are planning a trip with friends or family.
You are welcome to enjoy walks around the Lake, or come and see the gardens at the Hall.
There may occasionally be private functions and events at the Hall so it is probably wise to check with the Estate Office at the time of booking.

This is just the most lovely property, beautifully renovated and in a stunning location. Ideally placed for either the coast or the moors . A brilliant choice for families or if you just want to get away !!

Beautiful house with idyllic view over the Lake. We had a lovely time getting away from city life. Very good location for cycling as well.

We had a lovely few days here, a good base for a wedding at Matfen Hall. The beds are very comfortable and the cottage spacious and well equipped. The enclosed garden was great for our small children to run and crawl around in. The location is very rural, quiet and peaceful.

A great week - the cottage is very peaceful, set in a lovely rural situation. There is a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good bathroom with shower and bath (and plenty of hot water), and a spacious dining room. The sitting room with log burner is cosy for cooler evening and it is good to have off road parking in a designated space.

Lovely property in a super location for exploring Northumberland. We enjoyed walking on Hadrian's Wall, visiting old favourites at the coast and discovering new places in the National Park. Walking down to the lake and sitting in the garden enjoying the warm light evenings was an extra bonus! Communication with the host was easy and we always received prompt responses. Directions and check-in were great goo - we hope to be back sometime soon!

This is an amazing property, beautiful location, beautiful house and immaculate and certainly exceeded our expectations. Very much in keeping with the photographs. Information from Tom was extremely helpful. We would certainly stay there again.

What a great stay. Thought the communication was great up front, the property was exactly as advertised, everything was spotless and the house was extremely comfortable. Would recommend to others. And a bottle of wine and a cake on arrival - very thoughtful.

We spent two nights in this lovely house in October. Despite some horrible weather, the cottage was warm and cosy with ample comfortable bedding. The house is well equipped and nished to a good standard making it feel very homely for our short stay. What’s more, the wonderful views out over the lake and it’s quiet, picturesque location made it the perfect base for a relaxed family weekend in Northumberland.
