Until the late Seventies, Capheaton School served the parish and the School House was always occupied by the teacher. Now it has been converted to a holiday let available weekly or for shorter breaks.
With two double bedrooms and a small bunk room, it is a great retreat from the hurly-burly of life. Overlooking Sir Edward’s Lake, it enjoys lovely views and has a large garden and BBQ area. (Please note, due to the steep stairs this property is not suitable for those with mobility disabilities).
You can book all of our properties together if you are planning a trip with friends or family.
You are welcome to enjoy walks around the Lake, or come and see the gardens at the Hall.
There may occasionally be private functions and events at the Hall so it is probably wise to check with the Estate Office at the time of booking.

Wonderful house, perfect setting! Loved walking local on the Estate. Highlights – sunset/sunrise on the Estate, Lindisfarne, Cragside (a must!), Wallington, Bamburgh Castle and beach, Barter Books – Alnwick, and Hadrian’s Wall. Estate office lady – Louise – super helpful. Loved the curtains, really loved all the vibrant pottery in the house! Thank you.

Such a beautiful little house in a beautiful setting – we truly felt cosy and at home for the entire stay. Makes a great ‘base’ from which to explore Northumberland and the Coast. Thank you!

Beautiful house and surroundings. Perfect for a family birthday get together. Loved the real fires. Great walk in Kielder and drove out to Twice Brewed Inn for Hadrian’s Wall, great Sunday lunch and truly dark skies. Stunning landscapes – such a beautiful area of the country. Thank you!
Wrigley – Dearden-Mallows families – November 2022
Beautiful homely and individual house. Loved the art work on the walls and the two log burners. The setting is stunning, peaceful with far reaching views. The house is very comfortable and makes a superb base. It is a short drive from pubs, restaurants and local stores so stock up well if you don’t want to be driving for an evening meal. The generous dining room makes meals at home after a day exploring a perfect solution we found. We loved the area - very beautiful. With Kielder water accessible and Hadrian’s Wall and the Northumbrian countryside - we had a wonderful relaxing break. Thank you.

We loved our short stay at The School House. We had a lovely nature ramble around the Lake with the kids spotting the wildlife and had a picnic at The Boathouse. We also visited Wallington nearby. The house is beautiful with the amazing photography linking the house and village history to the stunning Estate. We will certainly have to return!

This cottage is an absolute must. The location is amazing with beautiful surroundings the lake was stunning. The cottage had everything we needed to make it home from home. It was very spacious and enjoyed having a cuppa in the window seats. The kids did have a fight which bunks they were sleeping in. I would recommend and love to come back.

Lovely house - would recommend. Near to hadrians wall housesteads fort and not too far (1hr20) from other places such as holy island. House is sweet, cosy and remote. Would have liked to stay longer!
JP – October 2022
We loved the early morning flights of the house martins swooping for the insects and later the menace of the buzzards. We recommend a daily walk to the lake, a visit to the walled garden and the Blacksmiths coffee shop in Belsay, the cheese scones in the garden coffee house in Hexham (and the cinema) and Chesters Hadrian’s Wall museum.
Bowerman family – August 2022
We had a lovely time on our first family holiday. Didn’t explore as much as we planned due to the few extremely hot days! However, kids enjoyed the respite in the cool living room watching TV. Lovely cottage and garden in such beautiful surroundings.
Johnston family – July 2022
We came seeking tranquillity and found peace. Lovely seeing Roseate Terns at Amble and Tree Sparrows – and as for Hadrian’s Wall…!
Buckle family – June 2022
This is just the most lovely property, beautifully renovated and in a stunning location. Ideally placed for either the coast or the moors . A brilliant choice for families or if you just want to get away!
